The »MERIDIS Dive and Relax« Cocogiri Dive Center is newly-renovated, with a brand new building and equipment.
Scuba diving is a very popular water activity here, because the island is located close to many world-famous dive sites, such as Kunsvashi Kandu or Miyaru Kandu.
We can transport you at any time of day by the customized Maldivian-style Dhoni to more than 25 different sites.

Many of the dive sites are situated on the current-rich outer reefs, channels and thilas which will provide enormous fun and excitement to our advanced dive guests. Identify new fishes and experience brilliant colors during one of our organized night dives, where you can see beautiful reefs covered with lovely corals.

For photographers and all those who enjoy calmer activities we recommend the sheltered inner atoll reefs which offer a splendid variety of macro objects and coral life.

Dive safety is the primary concern; therefore MERIDIS use only the most modern Bauer compressors with Pure Air Certification, as well as Nitrox facilities.

The Dive Center also offers the opportunity to undertake the complete range of PADI courses from Open Water Diver through Divemaster, including many PADI Specialties such as Enriched Air Nitrox, Underwater Photographer, and Wreck Diver. We can video your personal underwater experience for you to keep as a souvenir forever!

Snorkelers, and anyone interested in trying scuba diving will enjoy their first time under water by experiencing the fascination of diving with our "Discover Scuba Diving" introductory course; taught by Internationally-certified PADI Instructors in a wide variety of languages.

Dive Centre Activities

As the first Dive Centre in this atoll, MERIDIS visits completely untouched dive sites, and therefore offers an exclusive and unique diving experience. Several times a day the team will transport you using the customized Maldivian Dhoni (boat) to over 25 different sites in absolutely pristine diving areas.

Many of the dive sites are situated on the current-rich outer reef areas, which provide thrilling experiences to the advanced dive-guests as well the enthusiastic scooter-divers. Locate and identify new fishes and unique colours during one of the organised night dives.

Meridis Cocogiri Dive Sites

 

 

 

 

 

Miyaru Kandu

• Location: Alimathaa Uthuru Kandu
• Depth: 5m - 30m
• Fish life: above average
• Coral growth: good
• Features: sharks
• Experience level: *** advanced divers (beginners, if conditions are suitable)

Miyaru is the Dhivehi name for shark. On the north corner of the channel is a cave at 33 meters which is an excellent place for spotting grey reef sharks. There are more caves deeper on the outside reef. The best place for spotting sharks is the middle of the channel with an ingoing current. If the current is too strong, stay on the corner of the reef. Often seen in the channel are white tip and black tip reef sharks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Devana Kandu

• Location: second channel south of Alimathaa
• Depth: 5m - 25m
• Fish life: above average
• Coral growth: excellent
• Features: pelagic fish, sharks, coral
• Experience level: ** Beginners, if conditions are suitable

MARINE PROTECTED AREA - The channel is divided in the middle by a 250m long reef. The entire channel, both the north and south passage has been declared a marine protected area. With an ingoing current, divers can experience one of the most exhilarating drift dives in Vaavu Atoll. On the outside reef are caves and overhangs that drop vertically from 30m to the depths below. Grey reef sharks, eagle rays and pelagics are seen around the entrance to both passages, mostly during the north-east monsoon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dhonakulhi Dive Sites

Aquarium

(15 min. Boat) Beginner Place, A very easy dive and very good for snorkelling. In a depths of maximum 10 meter you can see a big variety of fish like blue stripe snappers, groupers, tuna fish, moray eels, lion fish. Various cleaning stations - big chance to see Manta rays during the season. Good for photographers. As the name says it looks like an Aquarium full of colourful fish.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dhonakulhi Channel

Our housereef channel with an average depths of 16 meters is perfect for drift or scooter diving. In the Manta season the channel is full with Manta rays. Open Water Course dives and Discover Scuba Dive Program are perfect to do off shore. Good for snorkelling and exploring the reef.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heaven & Hell

(40 min Boat) Advanced Divers - Nitrox. One of our best dive sites for soft corals. Thila which starts in about 18 meters depths. Overhangs on all sites of the reef are covered with amazing soft corals in the colours of yellow, pink, green and blue. If we have current and all corals are open it is a beautiful dive ! Great for pictures.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cathedral

(45 min Boat) Advanced dive. Long faru reef with a beautiful swim through starting in 20 meters. The Cathedral is beautiful covered with corals and very nice for taking pictures. In the overhangs good chance of seeing sting rays. You can find blue soft corals at the wall.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ihavandhoo Channel Thila

(80 min Boat) Beginner and Advanced. Shallow thila in the middle of a channel. If we have strong current, lots of fish. Manta cleaning station. Top reef full of scorpion fish, nudibranches, small stuff. Nice overhangs with lobsters and lion fish. Good for photographers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mathi Faru

(7 min Boat) Beginner and Advanced Dive. Wall starting in 6 meters going down to 30 meters depths. Covered with different kind of sponges, many small overhangs where you can see different kind of cleaning shrimp, lion fish, moray eels and lot of fish life on the top reef. Very nice place for night diving. Good for snorkelling.
